In honor of Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, we are honored to share a post from one of our partners, Emily’s Entourage. Emily is an inspiration to Team Consano, so take a moment to read more about CF, Emily and the great work being done by Emily’s Entourage.
We at Emily’s Entourage are proud to be participating in Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month this May. It’s been an exciting and busy month celebrating truly inspiring CF Warriors and working alongside the CF community to bring attention to this devastating disease and the progress being made toward control and a cure.
For those of you who aren’t familiar, Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a progressive and fatal genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. It causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs, which ultimately leads to life-threatening lung infections. Currently, the projected median life expectancy for someone with CF is 41.
Emily’s Entourage is a 501(c)3 organization that raises funds and awareness to help find a cure for CF. We’re dedicated to accelerating CF research to save lives through the power of community. Approximately 70,000 people worldwide with CF are waiting with bated breath for life-saving breakthroughs. We’re mobilizing friends, families and communities to join Emily’s Entourage on our quest for new treatments and a cure with a specific focus on rare mutations of CF.
As CF Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to take a moment to introduce you to the inspiration behind our efforts: Emily, a 29 year old with advanced-stage CF and Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes.
But Emily is much more than just a CF patient. In this short video clip, she answers 24 questions about everything ranging from her favorite foods and worst subject in school to whether she gets embarrassed about coughing a lot due to CF. We’re hoping the video sheds light on the actual people behind this disease — everyday people with crazy obsessions and quirky pet peeves, who just happen to share this horrible, deadly disease in common.
