Meet Ava - Cancer Warrior
As a family we have experienced first-hand the difference research is making.
Ava was a normal, rambunctious five-year old when she started having pain and not feeling well. While we were visiting the ER one evening, we were told by the x-ray technician there was a mass in her ovaries. We were transported to Seattle Children's Hospital by an ambulance and were admitted to the hospital for further testing. A CT scan confirmed what we have feared. Ava had a surgery to remove the tumor the next day. Pathology tests then confirmed that Ava's tumor was cancerous and she was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma at the age of 5.
Hearing those words that your child has cancer was absolutely horrifying and has turned our once normal lives upside down. After her surgery to remove the tumor from her gall bladder, a port was placed for chemotherapy. Ava has undergone 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and six weeks of radiation to her gall bladder.
Ava finished her treatment in September 2013 and her scans have shown no evidence of disease. She is now a happy 9 years old little girl who enjoys life despite what she has been through at such a young age.
Ava's dream is to find a cure for all childhood cancer. Together, we can continue to make this dream a reality. Every action you take to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer is one step closer to the day when other parents will not have the pain of losing their children. We thank you for your support. It will truly make a difference for children with cancer everywhere. Our hope is to raise money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures.
Thank you for your consideration!
